Be sure to get your copy of the latest International Review of African American Art (IRAAA), a journal published by Hampton University - Vol 22, no. 4!!! ONYXCON Art Exhibit Co-curator Kevin Sipp, acting curator at Hammonds House Museum, produced a wonderful article that covers ONYXCON's first ever event this past summer in Atlanta! IRAAA is the most widely recognized journal of African American visual Art in the US! Hammonds House Museum in Atlanta, GA's West End district carries copies of the journal if you wish to get a copy of this historical publication! A collage and digital work from Brutha YAMZ issue #1 (page 24) by Joseph R Wheeler III, founder/president of ONYXCON, was unfortunately mixed up and published with the label of Turtel ONLI's Nubian of greatness Cover . While submitted, ONLI's work did not get printed in the issue. Still, his name was mentioned and credited in Sipp's article for founding the first 'Black Age' conventions which inspired others and ONYXCON.
A request for corrections to the title under Wheeler's Art and publishing ONLI's has been CONFIRMED and will be corrected in the next IRAAA ! IRAAA is released quarterly and there are also plans for a future issue to encompass a full feature dedicated to Blacks in Sequential and related Popular ARTS!

We did it & We did it well! Southwest Arts Center and THE NEW ART ORDER!

With 25 vending tables strong, presenting industry pros and novice in comics, gaming, film, illustration, concept Art, and all related genres, we brought something fresh to ATLANTA! And we did it in style! Our message and mission of supporting African Diaspora focused visions in Popular Arts is clear and it was embraced by diverse cultures! We have given Atlanta a treat that stands out amongst all other Popular Arts Media Conventions.

With an eye on details, there were many areas that would need improvement if this event is to continue to grow and be a huge success. I recognize and have already began reform on these concerns. None the less I am proud of my vision coming to fruition, my family /friends, and my committee team. I am proud and grateful of Southwest Arts Center and its entire staff! I am aware that talks of future events have been proposed. I look forward to reorganizing and adding to the possibilities of what ONYXCON will mean to the city of Atlanta and the world in years to come. Everyone involved, please, take a bow!

Is known as "The Father Of The BLACK AGE of COMICS" Mr. ONLI's efforts in the 1990s to create distribution, push awareness, and produce independent comics made by and with images of the African Diaspora, resulted in the first ever conventions dedicated to this cause. It was ONLI's vision that inspired the East Coast Black Age of Comics (ECBACC - pronounced EK*BOK) created by Yumy Odom. ECBACC was followed by The KIDS COMIC-CON in The BRONX, NY.
